Expedited Shipping: How to get fast delivery for your shipment.
Expedited Shipping is a Fast and Guaranteed Delivery Service
What is expedited shipping? When a shipment needs to be delivered in 1-3 days, expedited shipping is usually requested. Expedited shipping is a service offered by most freight companies that speeds up the delivery of a package. Some expedited shipping can even be overnight delivery. Most freight companies have schedules that show how fast expedited shipping is. Online e-commerce companies have nearly perfected expedited shipping to deliver goods quickly. A perfect example of this is Amazon.com. Amazon not only sells the products but also expedites the shipment directly to your home or business by delivering the product in their own trucks. Other popular expedited shipping companies are UPS, FedEx, and the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). There are also expedited trucking companies that specialize in just expedited freight.
Typical Expedited Shipping Delivery Time Guarantees
Package deliveries within the same state or country typically only take 1 to 2 days. Expedited delivery is usually 2 to 3 days faster than standard shipping, which takes 3 to 5 days. If packages are being exported to other countries on the same continent, expedited shipments take around 2 to 3 days. If packages are being shipped worldwide to other countries and continents then expedited shipments take around 4 or 5 business days.
Pricing for Expedited Shipping
If you are buying products online and want expedited shipping then the price is usually published and you can choose a price that fits your budget. However, if you are a business that is shipping pallets of products then you will need to get a freight quote. Pricing on expedited shipping is determined by the miles between pickup and delivery and the amount of time that the delivery needs to be made within. A long distance with short delivery time will cause the price to increase.
Another factor in determining expedited shipping prices is if the shipment is LTL freight or a full truckload shipment. LTL stands for Less Than Truckload. LTL freight is going to be cheaper because the shipping companies will only charge you by the pallet. However, the price per pallet is more expensive for LTL loads.
One more determining factor for expedited shipping prices are the freight class. Freight class refers to what you are shipping. For example, shipping clothing would be a freight class and shipping computers would be a different freight class. Freight class can cause a difference in price.
Tips on Preparing your Products for Expedited Shipping
Standard Size Pallets
The first and most important tip on preparing products for shipment is choosing the correct pallet. Using the right sized pallet will protect your goods from damage. The standard size pallet is a 48x40-inch pallet. Most boxes will fit nicely on a standard size pallet. Your products will be protected during shipment with this pallet size. Once your products are stacked on a pallet make sure you shrink-wrap them for added security.
There are many types of pallets that are good for expedited shipping. For exports and imports, plastic pallets are great to use when shipping expedited freight. Plastic pallets do not need to be heat-treated or ISPM 15-compliant. If you use a wood pallet for expedited shipping and it does not have the correct heat treatment stamp, there could be delays. Any wood pallet that is exported needs to have heat treatment to kill any bugs or mold that could be transported to another country. If your wood pallet does not have the stamp, you can expect delays. To avoid delays like this use a plastic pallet.
